Impacts on environment during pre construction

There are several things to take into account during this phase, the physical environment, surface and underground waters, air quality, noise, meteorology, inhabitants, cultural heritage, and the biological environment.

During this phase all the materials, equipment, staff, and temporary structures will be brought to the site. This creates a very large amount of pollution to the air and ground around the build site which will only repair naturally on its own over time. Even when the materials are manufactured they will be affecting the environment greatly as most require a large amount of mining.

The soil within and around the site will not be able to be used for growing many plants or crops. As even a wind turbine can make the soil infertile within a 50metre radius due to the vibrations scaring off worms and insects that make the soil healthy. So with a whole construction site on top, the soil will require a lot of time to recover or may not ever recover fully from the vibrations sent through the soil.

Many other materials will need shipping in from other countries, meaning a greater environmental impact from transport, and some countries may have different regulations when it comes to mining or gathering of raw materials and the waste produced. This could be worse or better than the materials we source in the UK.
