Pavillion

One of our first large projects was to design a pavillion 2.5m x 2.5m. We had a budget of £500 to construct the whole thing and find a buisiness that could sponsor to help raise funds. This pavillion would be placed outside the Avenue Campus by the bus stop. This piece of land is not completey flat so we had to take into account the slopes and the problems this could cause. Above are some shots of my design on Google sketchup, it is made mostly from timber and the transparent sections are made from clear perspex. I liked the curved idea, it would let water run off and protect people sitting within from the wind.

After we presented our ideas we had to take a vote and pick the most favoured design to build, we ended up choosing Richards design which can be seen below, I liked the layerd horizontal slats and the arrowhead on the roof which points in the direction of the new campus currently being built.

The next stage was development of the current idea, we had to come up with some changes that we would make to the first initial design, we all made models and had drawing but only one of them could be chosen and this model created by another group was chosen.

We were all split into different groups to take care of each stage of the creation of the pavillion. I was in the funding team with Darren and Peter. We needed to raise £1000 +20% extra to cover any unexpected costs that may occur, through a variety of sponsors. We each had contacts in which we hoped to get some funds from:

Me - Contacting own sponsors (Peek Building & Taylor Wimpey).

Darren - Contacting Builders Merchants within the Northampton area for donations of materials.

Dammy - Haven't heard anything for you Dammy but if you get this email then you can contact companies that specialise in supplying Acoustic Foam within the Northampton Area to see if they will donate any materials. I've done a quick search on Google and there is a company based in Wellingborough called Foam Techniques that you can contact. Their email address is http://www.foamtechniques.co.uk/default.aspx

Pete - Contacting companies involved in the construction process of the new Waterside Campus (Bowmer & Kirkland, mosescameronwilliams architects, Atkins etc)

I had replies from both Taylor Wimpey and Peek building

Over the christmas holidays I managed to collect the sponsorship funds from my businesses. In total I have raised £600 towards the project. £300 from Peek Building. £100 from Taylor Wimpey. £100 from GM Tiling, and £100 from Character Coving.

Now the next step is to wait until we all meet again and decide if we have enough combined to proceed with our project and begin gathering resources and materials.
